My reactions largely went: GUNN!!!!!!!!! COULSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! etc.

So interestingly, Andrew thought that Ward was gonna be the main guy, but I think not, I'm pretty sure it's Skye--she's basically Kitty Pryde all growed up.

I thought that noting Peterson was "unregistered gifted" was interesting--at the end of Avengers in the newsclip montage there was a bit of a politician talking about registration, so I'm wondering if they are setting the stages to do some element of Civil War through SHIELD/MCU generally after all?

Speaking of "gifted", that also summons the idea of X-Men within MCU generally (although they are separated by studio rights agreements) as well as Whedon's own run in the X-books. While they can't show X-characters, I'm guessing they can talk about mutants more generally, especially as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are confirmed for Avengers 2.

Similarly, the Centipede-project--that actually reminded me more of Morrison's run on New X-Men with people's desire for boutique mutations vs. genetics. Though the same could be said for re-introducing Extremis (which I thought was a nice tie-in with IM3 also).

Coulson's return: they are foreshadowing heavily that he didn't just have a close call. I'm pretty sure he's an LMD.

Hill drawing a porcupine on Ward's review = win. Can has more Hill? Please and thank you.

All things considered, I think it was a solid pilot episode: It set up all the characters, foreshadowed a bunch of possible plot-lines, and told a self-contained story. I'm pleased with it and am curious what's coming next, especially as it starts to set up its themes and such. So far what it reminds me most of thus far is Dollhouse, setting up these insider and outsider characters in this new world. SQUEE ON!

Like I said on Facebook, I remain unconvinced it's an LMD. I think it's some sort of fakeout, but I don't know what.
