Whedony Cross-Pimpage

Popshifter just posted my essay on Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, It's a Love/Hate Thing: Why Dollhouse's Echo Matters.

Very interesting! I miss Dollhouse meta, it was a marvelously thinky show. (Although I always thought Boyd's end was rather tacked on.)

Also, why did Alpha have to end up being good? He was a wonderfully evil villain.

I didn't mind Alpha becoming good--though I feel bummed we never got to really see it.

And yeah, the Boyd thing was tacked on, but in fairness they were given all of three eps to wind up EVERYTHING. So all things considered I think they did well with what they had. But yeah, I'm eternally sad about Boyd. My head!canon will always be him in S1 though. <33

I know! At least we got 3 episodes for them to actually tie things up, I guess.

I remember seeing good!Alpha and Echo being all happy and huggy and I was like HE WILL CUT YOU RUN AWAY OMG. It seemed... sudden. I would have loved to see Alan Tudyk portray that transition. Although I would pay money to watch him file his taxes, so!

Trufax. The whole "When did Paul die?" "Fifteen minutes ago" will never NOT KILL ME.

Joss really does know how to pull an awesome ending out of his ass. For all the problems Dollhouse had at the beginning (thanks, FUX execs), it really got into its stride by the end of season 1 and I was more than ready for season 2. I was just sad that they had to wrap it up so quickly. I actually didn't watch season 2 live, I Netflixed it once it was over so I could just suck all the episodes down at once and wallow in it. Man, Epitaph 2 killed me, just killed.

But I could never hate Echo. For all she was a doll, she had more nuance than any of the rest of them. Even Boyd and Adele. That was such a stellar cast! I miss them! Hell, I miss all of Joss' shows. ::sigh::

I watched the whole show religiously: loved it to bits. I definitely think it was the most thinky of all of Whedon's work.

And I loved them all, though I was most intrigued by Priya and Tony and feel robbed we never got to have more of them. I adored Boyd and will never not be pained by his end. but Echo was definitely something special--the ending always made me worry: I can't help but think with Paul in her head that I'm not certain she'll ever emerge OUT of her headspace.
