Hi gang, I'm curious about what people want to see in my fic next (er, after the STBB sequel, and the porn I owe gadgetorious. I have a bunch of WIPS on my plate that I'd like to finish, and I want input on how to go about that. So I'll give a summary and snippet of each, and then if you could please vote on what you'd like to read the most? :)

A Field Theory of Leonard McCoy,or, Five Things Jim Kirk Learned About Bones, and One Thing Leonard Always Knew About Jim

Summary: Companion piece to A Field Theory of James T. Kirk. Log!verse.

Bones loves jazz. Somehow this does and doesn’t surprise Jim. On the one hand, the man is older than him, he has more degrees, he’s just--more is the only way to put it. Bones is more than anyone Jim has known in his entire life: more brilliant, more funny, more gentle, more dark. Just more. That he loves old music, specifically Earth music over two hundred years old should make him—tweedy. Professorial, maybe. Intellectual. It should make him… Boring. That’s the only way Jim can articulate it to himself. It should make the man quaint, and antique, and just old-fashioned.

It doesn’t.

It makes him…interesting.

Long Way Home

Summary: Leonard McCoy is stuck in the TOS verse while…Leonard McCoy is stuck in the AOS verse. Neither doctor is happy about it. Log!verse.

Leonard McCoy could make a whole list of things wrong with this place—a list that could probably go on for miles—but the thing that really kills him is the color of Jim’s eyes.

They are hazel. They remind him of San Francisco fog hovering over the Bay as it reflects the water back into the clouds, or like the sheets of rain in a Georgia mountain thunderstorm.

They should be blue, Goddammit. Blue like sweet summer skies and swimming pools on hot days.

Not hazel.

Summary: Joanna McCoy is brilliant, seventeen, and pregnant. Think Juno and Reboot. Log!verse.

He turns away from the bar, determined to make this shot last a little longer than the first, and is promptly horrified at the sight of one Joanna McCoy perched on a barstool, colorful drink in hand, animatedly chatting with one Hikaru Sulu.

“Christ,” Jim says, and slams the shot back. He’s already approaching the pair even as he begins his tirade. “Lieutenant Commander Sulu!” he barks.

His senior helmsman is out of his seat, standing at attention in a flash. “Sir!”

“Just what the fuck do you think you’re doing, Lieutenant?” Jim demands. “Joanna is way too young for you! You’re a Starfleet officer stationed to the Federation’s flagship!” He is gratified that Hikaru is turning paler at each word. “And if you can’t think of your own dignity, think of the Fleet’s!” Then he turns to Jo. "And you! What are you doing in a bar? You're seventeen years old. And pregnant!"

Jo holds up her glass calmly. “I ordered it virgin,” she says. “Are you quite done embarrassing me now?”

Shield of My Brother

Summary: This would be the concluding piece of the Log!verse. An epic war story.

No snippet as I haven't even begun it yet.

Gatherings of Leaves

Summary: Prequel/Sequel to Common Grounds. How Spock and Uhura got together. How Jim and Leonard stayed together. The letterpress art community of contemporary San Francisco.

“I have a mini-me,” Jim says as he sits down at the table, still looking gob-smacked.

Nyota stares at him, spoon still poised for Amanda’s feeding. She puts the spoon back in the jar of baby food. “Jim,” she says, “Never say that again. Ever.” She turns to Leonard. “You can’t let him say that.”

“I know,” says Leonard.

The Devil's Arithmetic

Summary: The dark!fic of Tarsus, Khan, etc. Bits previously posted at jim_and_bones.

They spend two days on Burial Detail. It’s the exhaustion from hunger as much as the number of dead to move that makes it take so long. They work with masks over their noses and mouths. Rather than muffle the stench, it makes it harder to breathe (an adult tells Jim this is all in his head, but Jim thinks that’s bullshit) and in the heavy heat of late summer, beads of sweat drip down his face into the cloth so he tastes his own salt and moisture as well as putrification.

Mid-morning the first day little Kevin Riley starts to scream. “They’re alive!” His eyes are wide and rolling, hysteric, as he continues to babble. “They’re alive, they’re alive, they’re alive—“

He’s starting to get the attention of the C.G. Jim runs to him, shakes him. “Shh, Kevin,” he says. “They aren’t alive, they can’t be—“ he starts to say, but the man at their feet gives a feeble groan. Kevin’s right about this one at least. “Fuck,” Jim says.

Man From the Stars

Summary: Another LOTR x-over because Jim/Éomer is my obsession. AU where there is no Bones, Jim crashes on Arda, and the King of the Mark has always had a talent for healing...

“He lives,” Éomer said in astonishment. As if to give proof to his claim, the man coughed, eyes opening to blink up at him blearily. He coughed heavily, then said something in a language that Éomer could not identify.

“That wasn’t Westron,” Elfhelm said unnecessarily. “Think you it was that odd tongue of the Elvish folk?”

“Definitely not.” Éomer held up two fingers as Magwen, the old healer had taught him to do. He moved them slowly in front of the man’s face, watching as the eyes followed them blearily. The man spoke again in his strange tongue. “I don’t understand you, traveler,” he said with a shake of his head. He put both both hands on his chest. “Éomer.” He hoped the man could understand this much.

He did. The man echoed the gesture. “Jim Kirk.”

Now help me out!

Sep. 17th, 2010 04:13 am (UTC)
it TOTALLY is! i don't know why i'm so enamored of it . . . actually that's a lie. i do know. cause eomer is HOT!

anyway, i confess to you that i wrote mpreg in my kid fic. *hangs head in shame* but i did it for easilymused1956, cause she requested it and really, really, wanted the kid!fic, so i decided to hell with it, wrote the damn thing, and am currently trying to pretend it never happened.
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:15 am (UTC)
Everything will get a pass because of [Bad username: easilyamused1956], as it should. :)
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:17 am (UTC)
i'm actually quite relieved its over cause now i get to work on my new series, which is darker and more angsty. thank god. there has been a surplus of fluff in my writing of late and i kinda think it's killing my soul
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:19 am (UTC)
LOLOL. That deeply amuses me. I'm sorry. ;)
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:22 am (UTC)
no LOLOLs! i literally can hear my soul screaming under the mountain of fluff its been under of late. i like balance in my fics and its been all honeymoon, kids, happily-ever-after sex. :-(

BUT - i just put up the last one-shot on my journal so yay!
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:23 am (UTC)
I'm reading it. I feel deeply aggrieved it's the last of the DWDTG fics. :(
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:25 am (UTC)
hmmm . . . maybe when i'm buried beneath angst and war in the new fic i'll need a fluff break and will give you outtakes in the Adventures of Babysitting the Kirk-McCoy Clans
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:26 am (UTC)
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:06 am (UTC)

Sep. 17th, 2010 04:07 am (UTC)
Yeah, I totally want to finish that one one day. Cos it's probably one of the best things I've ever written sylistically, but MAN I have to go some dark places there, so I'll do a bit and then I put it away for a while...
Sep. 17th, 2010 06:19 am (UTC)
You need an 'All of the Above' option. :P
Sep. 17th, 2010 08:57 am (UTC)
I fully agree with this ;D
Sep. 17th, 2010 08:58 am (UTC)

Okay, I did, because the snippet was awesome of "Long way home", but still! So many cool stories :)
Sep. 17th, 2010 02:37 pm (UTC)

Sep. 17th, 2010 03:20 pm (UTC)
I am deeply amused (and delighted!) that the Jim/Eomer love is spreading. :D :D
Sep. 17th, 2010 04:55 pm (UTC)
