Gleeful Nerdiness

Went to Ren Faire this weekend with Scott, Erin, and James, and we did have much fun and partake of numerous foods on sticks. (Seriously. They have: cheesecake on a stick, fried twinkies on a stick, all manner of meats on a stick, and even mac and cheese on a stick.) Erin and I dressed up but the boys didn't. I maintain Scott would look most sexcellent in a kilt but face much resistance on this issue--all from him. Oh well.

We saw: Fight School, swordswallowing, Shakespeare's Skum Tag Team Romeo and Juliet, a joust, and a guy who looked just like Capt. Jack Sparrow right down to the walk. It was amazing, I tell you.

Scott bought me an awesome print of The Laws of Books by a twelfth century rabbi that I will have framed one day and placed in our personal library. The Laws include such important rules as don't store your books in the same place as your food, never drop them, and if your house is burning down, rescue the books first.

I also splurged on celtic wall-hangings from Signs of Spirit, one for me and one for a friend's wedding present. They are all carved from single pieces of wood by an old fellow in Texas who maintains that they'll have to tear the tools out of his desiccated hands before he stops. Power to him! Definitely check out his site for the things of beauty he makes.

Just saw an advert for the new season of BSG which starts in the first week of October. I am deeply excited about this. Dr. Who, VM, and Gilmore Girls start next week. If I could just get more Rome my nerdiness would be complete.

Oh wow, when did they change that? Going to Ren Faire was a big treat when I was in GA; now it's kind of a yearly thing like "yay Ren time!!"
