Movie Review: Fright Night

*hops on couch* I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do, I really really do. I love Anton Yelchin and I REALLY love David Tennant and I love how Colin Farrel was sexy and squicky and terrifying by turns.

One of my many favorite things about this film, though, was how aptly it addresses the issue that always seems to come up when you watch horror films. "Y'know, if they had any sense they would...." ALL of the (main) characters are smart and do logical things throughout. In particular, the endgame is just so brilliant.

With a screenplay by Marty Noxon, the female characters were largely well done, but there were still some gender issues. Not once but twice does the murderous vampire get a pass from onlookers because "it looks like lady is havin' a good time." That said, I did have a bit of a problem with the mom and girlfriend falling into the "we'll do what he says" mindset pretty quickly.

Mostly, I kept thinking of how awesome this would be if Anton was Chekov and Amy was Sulu and Peter Vincent was Kirk, because I am a huge, huge, obsessed dork that way. So.

Anyhow. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! (And yes, there are multiple Twilight jokes and they are all funny.)

A horror movie with characters that are at least somewhat logical? *gasp* Well now I really have to see it.

I really like most of the cast (but especially love David Tennant), so it makes me happy to see it getting mostly good reviews. And as a long-time lover of vampire stories, it'll be nice to see something where the vampire is actually sexy AND disturbing for a change.

I'm hoping to see it sometime this next week. Hopefully I'll be able to find a 2D showtime I can make, because 3D gives me migraines.

At least here it was a vast majority of 3D showings, but if it helps since they typically give me headaches and this one didn't, whatever they did is....better than usual?

Oooooh. I may have to go see this, then. Even though horror movies squick me lots. I've been debating. The crossover, you should write it. *nods*

There's actually not all that much goryness--lots of blood flung here and there (that vampire is very wasteful!) and a few bits of outright gore, but these are very minor segments.

I generally consider remakes to be signs of the imminent crumbling of civilization, but this sounds good! Your recommendations haven't steered me wrong yet!

I haven't seen the original, but I'm reasonably certain with the Noxon script it has to be reasonably different. Also, Tennant is just So Much Fun!

I honestly felt like there were several moments--mainly those and when Jerry threatens Charley's mom and girlfriend to him--that actually served to point up the sexism of society. The whole "falling into line behind Charley" thing bothered me too though.

I watched the original yesterday. It was painful. Peter Vincent and Jerry were neat, but Ed needed to be eliminated completely. And the remake really benefits from the beefing-up of the Amy and Mom characters.

I wished I didn't have to wait for October for this to be released over here *frustrated sigh*
